DIY Shamrock Wreath

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!  Due to my family being half Irish, Saint Patrick’s Day has always been a holiday that we celebrated.  My grandparent’s always send us a card, we wear green, and when we were younger, my brother and I would make traps to try and catch a Leprechaun with.  They never worked but it was always a lot of fun to make them.  All of our hard work was not for not through since my parents would always make it look like the Leprechaun had sprung our traps and left us some kind of treat.

This year for Saint Patrick’s Day, I found a Shamrock wreath in the Target dollar spot, just like my Valentine’s heart, and painted it up to hang on our door.  It looks great and brings a bit of Irish luck into our home!  Below is a little DIY on how I created my Shamrock Wreath.

Shamrock Supplies

Supplies:

  • Green Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Wooden Shamrock
  • White Paint Pen
  • Twine
  • Glue Gun

Shamrock Painting

1. First I painted my Shamrock green.  I wanted to make sure that the gain of my wooden Shamrock was seen through the green paint. I did this by watering my down my green paint (kind of liking staining it) and put in on in thin layers, this way I could build up to the color I wanted.

Shamrock Spots and Lettering

2. After the green was dry, I decided that it needed a little something extra, so I took the same green paint and painted some polka-dots on my Shamrock.

3. Once the polka-dots were dry, I took my white paint marker and lettered on the word Lucky!

Shamrock Finishing Touchs

4. To finish off my Shamrock wreath, I took some twine and put it through the two holes at the top to hang it with.  Then I added a bow to the top with my glue gun. I created my bow by  folding my twine a couple times, tying a bow, and then cut the ends to length.

Shamrock Finished

Over all I’d say my Shamrock wreath turned out pretty cute and looks great on our door.  The whole project cost me around $3 dollars thanks to the amazing Target dollar spot and didn’t take very long to create either!

I hope you have an amazing St. Patrick’s Day and may the luck of the Irish smile upon you!
